In one of its latest news bulletins, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has drawn attention to the work of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.
The only organisation of its kind providing mental, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families, the charity runs a confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline and supporting app making free information and guidance available on a wide variety of wellbeing issues.
Lighthouse also offers a series of free online wellbeing training sessions with topics including coping with stress, work-life balance and financial management, along with other easy to access resources to support the construction community. Full details of the organisation’s work are available at www.lighthouseclub.org including an offer to employers of a construction industry helpline pack which includes A2 posters for a site or office together with handy wallet-sized cards for distribution.
The charity reports that, in 2020, a particularly difficult year because of the effects of the pandemic, it helped 2400 families in crisis.
With many callers struggling to understand their basic entitlements through the furlough scheme and other benefits, its case workers obtained £562,000 from sources including benefit entitlements that would have otherwise gone unclaimed.
