IOSH Managing Safely® Course

The IOSH Managing Safely® course was designed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) to address the safety and health training needs of the non-expert. This is a highly successful, practical and certificated course that runs over three days.

The course concludes with a short written assessment and a practical risk assessment based project which is completed in the workplace.

Why take the Managing Safely® course?

The quintessential introductory health and safety training course, the IOSH Managing Safely® qualification is one of the most successful and widely taught in the UK. Designed specifically for those new to the world of workplace health and safety, the course teaches you all of the essential information you’ll need to know to begin your career in the sector.

The IOSH Managing Safely® course is practical and easy to understand. There are two end assessments: a short written assessment (mainly multiple choice) at the end of the last course day, and a workplace risk assessment which the delegate completes and sends in to us for marking after the course has been completed. Upon passing both assessments, delegates will receive a certificate from IOSH.

Who is the course suitable for?

This IOSH Managing Safely course is designed to help team leaders, supervisors, line managers and senior managers meet their health and safety obligations. If you have not undertaken any formal Health and Safety training previously, this is a great way to start your career in occupational safety. In fact, many safety practitioners and union safety representatives begin with this course.

How are they taught – what are your learning options?

We only deliver the training via face to face classroom sessions, we run three open courses a year for individual delegates to book onto and we also offer the course as in house for organisations with 5 or more delegates – this can be held at either the client’s premises (if a suitable training room is available) or at our bespoke training centre in Hampton, Peterborough.

How will the course benefit my career or skill set?

The IOSH Managing Safely course is designed for the beginning of your career path in occupational safety, or is a complementary qualification to help you fulfil your responsibilities as a line manager, supervisor or team leader.

What does the course cover?

The IOSH Managing Safely course is designed to develop the skills used to deal with key health and safety issues affecting every workplace. The role of the line manager is explored to identify the practical ways in which they can contribute to ensuring the health and safety of their employees, organisation and the other people who may be affected by their company’s operation.

The course is based upon:

  • identification of workplace behaviours
  • competency based training
  • formal assessment of skills

Course modules and structure:

  • Introduction to Managing Safely
  • Risk Assessment
  • Risk Controls
  • Understanding your responsibilities
  • Common workplace hazards including fire, noise, manual handling, computer use, vibration, workplace issues, chemicals and electricity
  • Accident investigation
  • Measuring health and safety performance

This course will equip you with the skills to tackle common health and safety issues that occur in workplaces every day – and prevent them from arising in the first place. We’ll cover the role that line managers have to play, too, offering practical solutions they can utilise to help keep everyone safe.

Please note : Delegates must attend, in person, all 3 days and pass both assessments to achieve the qualification.
