NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Manual Handling Risk Assessment

NEBOSH and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have jointly developed a new one day qualification aimed at preventing one of the main causes of musculoskeletal disorders; manual handling.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) accounted for 8.9 million lost working days in Great Britain in 2019/20, with manual handling estimated to be the main cause.

The Nebosh HSE Certificate in Manual Handling Risk Assessment will ultimately help you recognise, assess and reduce manual handling risks in the workplace.
The training includes a 60-minute practical assessment which will be completed at the end of the course. After watching a video case study, you will be asked to assess the activity using HSE’s best practice guidance, tools and templates.

Course Information

What does the course cover?

Principles of Manual Handling

Why manual handling should be avoided, the moral, business and legal reasons for assessing and managing it and common types of injuries that arise.

Identification of Manual Handling Risk

Delegates will obtain an understanding of risk factors associated with manual handling, the application of HSE’s manual handling assessment tools (MAC and RAPP) and what makes a risk assessment suitable and sufficient.

Control of Manual Handling Risk

How to avoid manual handling risks with the use of mechanical assistance and the recognition of good handling techniques.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is suitable for anyone who is involved with assessing manual handling risks, or who supervises employees undertaking manual handling tasks. This can include line managers, supervisors, health and safety managers, health and safety professionals, workplace champions, employee representatives and occupational health practitioners.

This is also a great course for anyone who has already achieved a NEBOSH qualification, and wants a refresher to improve on their Manual Handling assessment skills or to go towards their CPD (Continuous Professional Development).

In House Courses

We run this course as an in house course which can be held either at your premises (if you have a suitable training room), or at our bespoke training centre in Hampton, Peterborough.
