Meet the Team

The Peterborough-based Cambridge Safety Partnership was set up by husband and wife team Paul and Jackie Cambridge in 1998. Its purpose is to help the business sector to keep within the bounds of current health, safety and environmental legislation and to improve the overall standards of safety.

Jackie Cambridge

MSc, BSc (Open), CFIOSH, MIIRSM, Chartered Fellow CIPD, PIEMA

Company Position

Jackie has over 25 years of experience in the field of health, safety and environmental management, as a generalist she has undertaken work projects in industry sectors as diverse as healthcare, engineering, manufacturing, food and construction. As a practitioner she has used her wealth of knowledge to develop Cambridge Safety’s wide variety of Nebosh certificate and diploma courses with pass rates way exceeding the national averages supported by comprehensive but easy to follow course manuals. Jackie takes the lead on our two Nebosh diplomas having herself won national awards from IOSH and NEBOSH when she herself was studying. Ensuring our delegates receive quality support and guidance not only for the course assessments but also for use day to day in the workplace.

Jackie has for a number of years assisted in the development of new qualifications and the setting and marking of professional assessments. She has more recently written a Risk Management module for Hull University working as an associate course director assisting students in completing Masters programmes in both health and safety and environmental management.

In recognition of her role in supporting Health and Safety standards both in the workplace and more widely she was awarded her IOSH Fellowship in 2016.

In recent times Jackie has recorded a range of podcasts, videos and revision activities to assist delegates in achieving their chosen qualification, whether joining us here at Cambridge Safety or when studying remotely.

Paul Cambridge

Company Position

Paul developed his interest in health and safety whilst working in the insurance industry considering a range of risks involving buildings, construction projects and large scale public events. Using this risk management approach he has undertaken consultancy projects for a range of construction related organisations, IT support services and schools.

His methodical and thorough approach ensures both our consultancy and training material are excellent sources of clear, concise useful advice and guidance. Paul has also developed a number of informative practical sessions on topics including manual handling, work at height and asbestos awareness. He leads the work equipment and workplace module of the H&S diploma. He has undertaken a range of Health and Safety audits with a focus on dealing effective SMS which can be run easily internally.

Paul has worked with Nebosh on the development of their new Environmental Diploma assisting with the technical content and considering depth and detail of the examination questions.

Helen Ferreira

TechIOSH EnvDipNEBOSH

Company Position

Helen started her career as a dental professional, developing her health, safety and environmental management skills in COSHH, radiation, manual handling, ergonomics, waste management, water pollution and stress/violence. She became a dental radiographer and was appointed Radiation Protection Supervisor in multiple dental practices. Her business skills were then developed as a Practice Manager, which included the role of Health and Safety Manager. She has always been passionate for environmental issues, especially with relation to the oceans as a scuba diver and shark enthusiast!

Helen has been with Cambridge Safety for more than 9 years, she received a Distinction for her Nebosh General and Environment Certificates and a Credit for her Nebosh Environmental Diploma.

Her main role at Cambridge Safety is Business Manager, dealing with invoicing, Nebosh registrations and procedures and delegate care.

Helen also teaches and supports delegates on the IOSH Managing Safely, Nebosh General and Environment Certificates and supports our consultancy clients.

Gary McLeod

Company Position

Gary has over 10 years experience in Health and Safety management since gaining his IOSH Managing Safely certificate in 2013 whilst working for the Ministry of Justice. Before working as a consultant / trainer Gary was employed by a construction company working on many projects throughout London and the surrounding areas, and can include some prestigious projects including The Shard, The new Elizabeth Tube Line, Canary Wharf and HS2, among his achievements.

After attaining his IOSH Managing Safely course Gary went on to achieve his Nebosh General Certificate, and Nebosh Construction Certificate and was here at Cambridge Safety where he achieved his Nebosh Fire Certificate and Nebosh Diploma.

Gary joined Cambridge Safety in 2023 as a Nebosh and IOSH trainer.

Karl Matthews

Dip NEBOSH, MIET, GradIOSH

Company Position

Karl has an engineering background and has developed his health and safety skills around this specific area greatly. He has over 10 years experience of working in a variety of high risk industrial organisations, using his technical knowledge to support the health and safety function. He takes a lead in machinery related risk assessment and training along with specialising in the hazards and risks associated with working or near explosive or flammable atmospheres. He uses his skills to boost the technical understanding of those studying or working in Health and Safety, as these specialist high risk situations often need a more technical approach. Karl has completed HAZOP Studies for new machinery installation to ensure it is safe to operate, leading a cross functional project team and reviewing the proposed install layout plans.

Karl also utilises his specialist skills relating to dangerous and explosive atmospheres to complete Area Classification and Ignition Hazard Assessments including DSEAR risk assessments. He is very much the subject matter expert for machinery assessments, CA/CE marking and explosive risks. Karl works for his own consultancy as well as being a permanent member of our Nebosh tutorial team.

Alice Sims

Company Position

Alice started with Cambridge Safety as an administrative assistant in 2017 and has been progressing through her career developing the delegate journey process, successfully completing her IOSH Managing Safely,  Nebosh General Certificate and Nebosh Fire Certificate.

She has passed her IOSH Train the Trainer course and now teaches on several of our courses, as well as providing delegate advice, feedback and support.

We are supported at Cambridge Safety by:

Alice Sims, who started at Cambridge Safety in 2017 and is responsible for the delegate journey through their studies, Alice is also a tutor and readily available to provide advice and feedback via telephone and email.

Fiona McCann, who joined us in 2021 as finance administrator alongside other course and marketing duties.

We also use external tutors to complete the Nebosh Open Book Exam closing interviews and Diploma Professional Discussions.
